TEL AVIV, March 26 (Reuters) - Israel beat Chile 1-0 in a friendly international on Wednesday with Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun scoring from a free kick in the 31st minute.
Both teams had their share of chances in a fast-paced encounter but Israel's stronger defending and some loose finishing by the Chileans allowed most of the 24,463 spectators to go home happy.
Benayoun's free kick beat the wall and ended up in the back of Eduardo Lobos's net. It was the Israeli captain's 15th goal in 63 international appearances.
Benayoun was substituted to loud applause in the 78th minute by young Barcelona attacking midfielder Guy Assoulin who, two weeks short of his 17th birthday, became Israel's youngest international cap.
