UEMOA cenbank frees up $1.5 bln for internal debts

ABIDJAN, 21 Nov (Reuters) - The central bank for the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) will disburse 700 billion CFA francs ($1.59 billion) so that governments in the eight-nation bloc can pay off internal debts, a statement said.

ABIDJAN, Nov 20 (Reuters) - The eight-nation West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) cut its 2009 economic growth forecast to 3.2 percent from 4.7 percent, Ivory Coast's top finance official said on Friday.

CAPE TOWN, Nov 11 (Reuters) - West African mobile operator, Atlantique Telecom aims to increase its customer base by up to 20 percent annually, its managing director said on Wednesday. Atlantique Telecom is 82 percent owned by the UAE's Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) and operates in Niger, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Gabon, Togo and the Ivory Coast and has a total of 4.2 million subscribers.
